Our Final Day Travelling In Andalusia Spain

Today, we decided, was our final day of travelling in Andalusia so we turned the wheels back towards Oliva Nova along the Costa Blanca to park the car for a while and re-group.

February 04, 2008:
After two weeks of solid travelling and photography in Andalusia, we'd had our fill of history, historic architecture, and scenery. There is just so much to see and do down there it is impossible to do it all on one trip - that is if like us, you really want to get to know the places you visit and study their history. Eventually there is no more room in the head for more.

We'd managed to cover quite a lot of Andalusia (although not all) and thoroughly enjoyed travelling in the region. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to the Alhambra and Generalife in the city of Granada - that was the first time ever I'd seen such exquisite architecture and details on a building - it's something you have to see to believe. This, as we'd learn, was pretty standard architecture on the historic buildings throughout Andalusia which date back to the time of Moorish rule.

In Jerez de la Frontera, we discovered our liking for sherry - something my grandmother used to drink on special occasions, but I could never understand how anyone could drink it until now. The climate and soil quality of this area make the perfect conditions for sherry production, as well as the traditional methods used for fermenting and storing the delectable beverage. Today, sherry from this area of Andalusia is exported around the globe and is world renowned.

We'd explored cities with their monumental structures, villages - including one made up of cave dwelllings, and indulged in a couple of hours of luxury at the Arab Baths in Sevilla. We'd also tried a variety of traditional foods from breakfast through to dinner - from chorios and hot chocolate to Paella. We'd polished up on our Spanish too, since fewer people in Andalusia speak english or german.

We definitely plan to return to Andalusia to explore the rest but for now we are heading back to Oliva Nova, we have two weeks of work to catch up on before we head back to Germany in 9 days.
